Today, on September 23, 2025, the Tajik National University (TNU) hosted a national scientific and practical conference organized by the Department of Economic Geography and Tourism of the Faculty of Finance and Economics. The theme of the event, “Current Issues of Tourism Development in Modern Conditions,” attracted the attention of leading scholars, specialists, representatives of ministries and agencies, as well as students of the university.
The conference was decorated with an exhibition featuring tourist routes, informational materials, maps, brochures, and examples of Tajikistan’s folk art. Participants discussed key aspects of tourism, emphasizing its strategic importance for the country’s economy.
The conference was opened with a welcoming speech by the head of the scientific department of TNU, Shoimardonov S., who highlighted the importance of tourism for the country, stressing its role not only in increasing the state budget but also in showcasing Tajikistan’s cultural and historical values on the international stage. It was also noted that the importance of this sector is the reason why World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27.

During the conference, several current issues were discussed, such as “Studying the International Experience of Tourism Development and the Possibilities of Applying It in Tajikistan,” “Theoretical Aspects of Tourism Development in the Context of the Modern Economy,” “Tajikistan’s Resources as a Tourist and Recreational Destination,” and “The Transformation of Tajikistan’s Tourist Regions into Tourism Clusters.” The participants emphasized that in modern conditions, tourism has become a significant sector of the global economy, and Tajikistan is actively working on the efficient use of its natural and cultural resources.
One of the key areas of focus is attracting foreign investment, increasing the flow of both domestic and international tourists, and developing infrastructure that will facilitate more comfortable and high-quality services for tourists. As a result of the discussions, a number of new ideas and strategies for the effective development of this sector were proposed.
The conference became an important step towards further tourism development in Tajikistan, opening new horizons for scientific and practical growth in this field.
