The Faculty of Finance and Economics was founded in 1981 and until 1994 served as a center for training specialists in various fields of economics. From 1994 till 2002 this faculty was united with the faculty of accounting and economics due to the changes in the internal structure of the university. With the course of time and the annually increasing demand of the society for personnel in the sphere of finance and economics the necessity of separation of the faculty of Finance and Economics from the faculty of Finance and Accounting arose. Since 2002 this faculty has been working as an independent faculty at Tajik National University.
Internal and international cooperation of the Faculty of Finance and Economics with many domestic and international ministries and enterprises is established on a comprehensive level. In order to better assimilate the theoretical knowledge and apply it in practice, the students are mobilized to the ministries and enterprises for internships in the relevant departments of the faculty. Most of the students after graduation are employed in ministries and enterprises, which is one of the indicators of effective activity of the teaching staff.
On the basis of the department training of specialists in the following specialties: Finance and credit: full-time – 4 years, part-time – 4 years, 2 – higher education – 3 years, Master – 2 years, doctorate – 3 years, PhD – 3 years, a candidate – 4 years. Insurance specialty – 4 years of full-time education.
The departments of the faculty prepare highly qualified specialists in finance and credit, insurance, financial management, finance and control in customs, taxes and taxation, banking, global economics, economics and management of tourism, which work in various fields of national economy.
The faculty holds scientific, practical and theoretical conferences at the national and international levels every year. Organizing and conducting scientific and theoretical seminars at the faculty is one of the most important steps in terms of increasing the scientific potential of the faculty. Seminars are devoted to important issues of finance, credit relations, integration of Tajikistan into world economy.
Also, the faculty holds scientific circles among students. Each year, students of the faculty participate in national and international competitions within the country and abroad.
The teaching staff in the departments of the faculty consists of more than 76 people, including: 2 академика,

Classes are held on two shifts, and cover students as follows:
– First shift – 720 people (161 – girl, 559 – boy);
– Second shift – 696 people (164 girls, 532 boys);
At present there are 6 departments at the faculty: Finance and Insurance, Public Finance Management, Banking, Taxes and Taxation, Economic Geography and Tourism and also World Economy.
At present conditions have been created within the faculty for training specialists in the following specialties: 1-25010400-Finance and Credit, 1-25010403-Insurance, 1-25010404-Taxes and Taxation, 1-25010300-World Economy, 1-25010717-Tourist Economics and Management, 1-25010402-Banking, 1-25010410-Financial Management, and 1-25010409-Finance and Control in Customs Activity.
Department of World Economy
The Department of World Economy (the former Department of International Economic Relations) was founded in March, 1994 in the structure of the Faculty of Finance and Economics as a specialized department for training specialists in the direction of “World Economy”. This chair is considered as one of the most prestigious departments and contributes to training specialists in different spheres of economy. The lecturers of the chair teach 20 courses at the bachelor’s level, 8 courses at the master’s level and 7 courses at the PhD level. Teaching in the department is conducted in three languages: Tajik, Russian and English. The number of teachers with degrees in the department is 60%.
Department of Finance and Insurance
In 1965 the department of “Finance and Credit” was separated from the department of “Economy, Commerce and Finance” as an independent department. After the separation the first head of the newly created department of “Finance and Credit” was T.N. Nazarov, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor. From the beginning of the department its scientific and methodological research trends were aimed at preparing curricula, special courses and seminars, development of educational programs in the core subjects. The scientists and teachers of the department have done a lot of work here. During these years there have been written several scientific-methodical works, monographs, educational textbooks by the scientists and lecturers of the department. Besides monographs and textbooks, the scientists of the department have published scientific articles in Russian and foreign magazines and newspapers. Also there are publications in international journals SCOPUS. Currently, research work on “Issues of improvement of financial regulation of the economy of the Republic of Tajikistan in modern conditions” is being carried out. Department of Public Finance Management
With the introduction of new economic relations the demand for specialists in finance and customs is necessary. Therefore, in 2020 the Department of Financial Management by the decision of the Academic Council of the TNU changed its name to the Department of Public Finance Management. The Department of Public Finance Management prepares specialists in the specialties 1-25010409 – finance and control in customs activities, 1-25010410 – financial management, 1-25010400 – finance and credit.
Department of Economic Geography and Tourism Management
The Department of Economic Geography and Tourism Management was established in September 1980 as the Department of Economic Geography. Before that period, the subject of economic geography belonged to the department of agricultural planning. The chair of economic geography and management of tourism was created according to the order of the rector of the Tajik National University from 15.07.2010 № 257-09 on the base of the chair of economic geography and technology of production at the faculty of economics and economy.
Department of Taxes and Taxation
Department of Taxation and Taxation of the Faculty of Finance and Economics of the Tajik National University was established by the decision of the Council of Scientists of the Tajik National University on May 6, 2014 at number 12 and by the order of the Rector of the Tajik National University under number 244-09 from September 25, 2014. Since its establishment, the Department of Taxation and Taxation has been conducting the educational process on a 5-year educational plan, 4-year educational plan and 2-year master’s degree on a credit educational plan. Currently, the department is considered one of the leading departments of the Faculty of Finance and Economics and makes a significant contribution to the training of specialists in the field of taxation and various aspects of the economy of the Republic of Tajikistan. Graduates of the department work in Tax Committee under the Government of RT, Ministry of Finance of RT, Customs Service under the Government of RT and all state ministries and departments and private organizations.
Chair of Banking
Considering the improvement of the didactic and methodical process, training of qualified personnel in the sphere of banking, on the basis of the Finance and Credit chair of the Faculty of Finance and Economics by the order of the rector № 150-09 of June 24, 1999 the Banking chair has been operating for more than 20 years. Department of Banking trains specialists with higher education for credit and financial institutions on specialty 1-25010402 – “Banking” at two levels of higher education full-time – bachelor’s, master’s, by correspondence – distance education and second higher education.
